Speaker:

The health and wellness industry is

a huge industry with so many products

2

:

pushed at us from every different angle.

3

:

With the creatine industry alone reaching

four plus billion dollars by:

4

:

are some of the health and wellness

equipment trends, products that have

5

:

withstood the test of time for me?

6

:

So today I am going to.

7

:

Share with you my favorite health and

wellness products that have withstood

8

:

decades of time for me, years of time,

years of time for you guys as well.

9

:

I ask the community what they

recommend and what has withstood

10

:

the test of time for them.

11

:

In addition to de influencing

you from buying certain products

12

:

that are being pushed at us.

13

:

Welcome back to Wellness the Pod.

14

:

I'm your host, Dr.

15

:

Kelsey Vic, a board certified

orthopedic doctor, physical therapy,

16

:

and a pelvic floor physical therapist.

17

:

And I have had so many friends recently

who are creating their home gyms or their

18

:

spaces for wellness within their homes,

and they text me knowing that I've tried

19

:

a lot of different products and that I've.

20

:

Built out my own home gym,

my own wellness space.

21

:

Like what are some of the non-negotiables?

22

:

What are things that

are absolutely worth it?

23

:

So I figured we do a little fun

product e type of episode today with

24

:

my own recommendations, but then also

recommendations from you guys because

25

:

I feel like those recommendations from

friends are honestly some of the best.

26

:

So I asked you guys what are some of

your health and wellness non-negotiables?

27

:

And then I'll also sprinkle in my own,

in addition to telling you guys the.

28

:

Health and wellness items that I've

purchased that I might not purchase

29

:

again, should I move houses or rebuild

a wellness space somewhere else?

30

:

So if you guys have listened to

the pod for a while, you know

31

:

that I switch up my routine often,

especially my exercise routine.

32

:

I get bored and I do one routine for

a couple months and then I switch it

33

:

up, add in, running out in Pilates.

34

:

So I'm constantly looking

for equipment that can.

35

:

Transfer from when I am in more

of a strength training phase

36

:

versus a Pilates phase, versus a

bar phase versus a running phase.

37

:

There's no need to invest heavily

in equipment if you are like me

38

:

and just want to switch it up.

39

:

So this is the equipment that I

would recommend investing heavily in

40

:

because, or or spending a little bit

more money on, knowing that it works

41

:

for a wide range of workouts, and

any time that I switch up my routine.

42

:

So let's start with items that

have been totally worth it for me.

43

:

And this first one is probably A

little bit controversial, but they

44

:

are my leggings and my bottoms,

specifically from Lululemon.

45

:

I know there is a lot of controversy

within the company historically.

46

:

There's just some things that have

been said that I definitely do not

47

:

subscribe to, but their leggings

and the quality of their leggings

48

:

and their bottoms is unmatched.

49

:

I have had some since.

50

:

2013, I guess so 12 years.

51

:

And they are still just as

good as when I bought them.

52

:

And they are just as comfy

if not even more comfy now.

53

:

So their quality actually lasts.

54

:

I know they're expensive, but I

have found that it has been worth

55

:

it to invest in quality leggings.

56

:

And I really like the way the ones

from Lululemon fit, especially

57

:

their aligned leggings as a

pelvic floor physical therapist.

58

:

I like things with not.

59

:

A super tight waistband

in the abdominal region.

60

:

'cause then it can push pressure

down onto the pelvic floor.

61

:

So I really like the aligned

leggings for that reason.

62

:

They're great for lounge, not great

for super sweaty workouts, but

63

:

great for lounge yoga, Pilates bar,

all of those types of workouts.

64

:

I.

65

:

also love my stacked mat.

66

:

I've had my stacked mat now for probably

about five years, and previously I didn't

67

:

love any yoga mat because it was not that

comfy, and I'm not a huge yoga girly.

68

:

I love yoga classes, but I

don't necessarily go outta

69

:

my way every week to do them.

70

:

And so I would never invest

in a true yoga mat because

71

:

I felt like it was only good for yoga

and core workouts, but now with the

72

:

stacked mat, it is very versatile.

73

:

No matter what workouts I do, it folds up.

74

:

So not only is it comfy on your

knees for yoga workouts, but it can

75

:

also be used for strength training

workouts for high intensity interval

76

:

training workouts for core work.

77

:

It's just a great sort of all

in one mat that is versatile

78

:

for a lot of different workouts.

79

:

Looped booty bands, and a lot of

you guys said this as well, but I

80

:

love a good looped booty band set.

81

:

I feel like they're great for a variety

of workouts and they're also great

82

:

for travel, which is super important,

especially if you're trying to stay

83

:

consistent within your exercise routine.

84

:

Now, as much as I wish I

found an alternative for this

85

:

next one, I have not yet.

86

:

I'm still looking for a great set that can

be space saving and efficient, but a good

87

:

dumbbell variety has never done me wrong.

88

:

I have anything from three

pounds up to 40 pounds.

89

:

Just having different options to challenge

your muscles and provide enough of a

90

:

stimulus with the dumbbell options that

you have and the weight options that

91

:

you have is huge for getting the results

that you want within your workouts, no

92

:

matter the workouts that you're doing.

93

:

So yes, storage can be a nightmare,

especially in a small space.

94

:

We've had them under our couch

when we were in an apartment.

95

:

Right now we have this like rack in our

garage that's really large and bulky,

96

:

and I definitely would love to find

an adjustable option that can allow.

97

:

From, you know, low weights to high

weights for upper body to lower body.

98

:

So I'm still looking for that.

99

:

So if you guys have a great recommendation

for that, I would love to hear it

100

:

because I don't love how much space

a variety of dumbbells takes up.

101

:

Speaking of home gym, an adjustable bench.

102

:

We had one in our apartment.

103

:

Yes.

104

:

It looked like we were

just the ultimate gym bros.

105

:

Having it with our couch and our

coffee table in our living room.

106

:

But.

107

:

Adjustable bench has been

huge, especially a sturdy one.

108

:

'cause not only can you do upper body

stuff, bench press, chest press, chest

109

:

flies, bent over rows, core work on it.

110

:

You can also do like squat jumps

and step ups and lower body work,

111

:

especially if it is a st sturdier bench.

112

:

So we really like.

113

:

Hours from Rep Fitness.

114

:

We've had the fringe one there out of

Austin, and it works okay, but it was a

115

:

little shakier, so I'd recommend trying

it in person, but that has definitely

116

:

been one that I've recommended to a

lot of people just because it is so,

117

:

so versatile for a lot of different

workouts and a lot of different, like

118

:

upper body and lower body workouts.

119

:

The last ones are pretty

quick, but I have had.

120

:

Multiple journals, and I think

this is an easy one that has

121

:

listed the test of time for me.

122

:

I used to be a daily journal, now I'm more

of a weekly journaler, but throughout,

123

:

again, probably since 20 10, 20 11,

I've been journaling in some capacity.

124

:

So having a really fun journal that

I look forward to opening and writing

125

:

in has been huge for my health and

wellness, but especially like the

126

:

mental component of health and wellness.

127

:

I also love Spotify, some sort

of music playlist streaming,

128

:

music streaming service.

129

:

I have loved having Spotify.

130

:

I think we've had this for

probably almost a decade.

131

:

I've been using it for probably

almost a decade, and I.

132

:

We have tried Apple Music and I

still go back to Spotify every

133

:

time because of their ability

to curate different playlists.

134

:

So I love that.

135

:

And then the last one you guys have heard

me talk about before about my R Ring.

136

:

I've had an Apple Watch.

137

:

I've had a Fitbit way back when.

138

:

I've had a lot of different fitness

trackers, and the R Ring to me

139

:

is definitely worth the money.

140

:

Their warranty is great.

141

:

I have had it like almost after a year.

142

:

For some reason, the software started

and the hardware started to be a little

143

:

bit glitchy and not connect with my

app, and so I connected with them.

144

:

They sent me a new one.

145

:

It was amazing.

146

:

This one I've probably had now for

two or three years, so I think it was

147

:

just something about that one that.

148

:

It the hardware software was off,

but this one has been amazing.

149

:

I love how small it is.

150

:

I love the ability to track

a lot of different variables.

151

:

It's not the best activity

tracker, but I'm not necessarily

152

:

looking to track my activity and

see how many calories I burned.

153

:

I really like the more holistic

approach the R Ring takes.

154

:

And then lastly, things to, I guess,

influence you guys on from you guys.

155

:

These are some of the things

that when I asked you guys what

156

:

are some non-negotiables for you

guys in your health and wellness

157

:

routines throughout the years?

158

:

These are some that you guys sent me.

159

:

So the loom box, red light therapy

or any red light therapy, the

160

:

AW Walla water bottles, which

I've seen more of these lately.

161

:

And they're the ones with the

straw and the SIP options.

162

:

So if you like a straw, you have the

straw, but if you want a sip, you also

163

:

have the SIP option, which is pretty cool.

164

:

This one I thought was funny, but it was

a body wash brush to scrub your back.

165

:

Again, these are the non-negotiables.

166

:

These are just like the basics and

I love that that one was included.

167

:

It's a tend to TTR because yes,

after sweaty gym hair, we all have

168

:

tangles the hatch alarm clock.

169

:

I still have not gotten one of these,

but I have heard from so many people

170

:

that it is definitely worth it.

171

:

The Brew Mate, water bottle,

another water bottle option, dime

172

:

non-toxic skincare, water boy,

electrolytes, primarily pure deodorant.

173

:

The peppermint lineage sleep mask

because there's no dyes in it.

174

:

I just found this out.

175

:

Actually, my sister is the one that

submitted this one and she told

176

:

me the berry one that I love has.

177

:

Like a dye in it.

178

:

And so she has switched to the

peppermint one, same amount of

179

:

moisture, but no dyes in it.

180

:

So I love that.

181

:

Disposable face towels,

speaker and AirPods.

182

:

So something to listen to music.

183

:

And I'm a big AirPods user too, not

like the max ones that have your

184

:

ears like in the full headphones.

185

:

I've heard those can

get sweaty at the gym.

186

:

But I do love my AirPods too.

187

:

And finally, let me de influence you

guys on some of the things that I've

188

:

bought, I've loved in the past, but.

189

:

Maybe won't withstand the test of

time with the amount of research and

190

:

just different things coming out.

191

:

So the first one is my as sauna blanket.

192

:

I love it.

193

:

I use it, but I probably wouldn't

rebuy mainly because I do feel like

194

:

it is a good cheaper option to get

the benefits of sauna without actually

195

:

purchasing or putting in a real

sauna or getting a membership to a

196

:

recovery facility that has a sauna.

197

:

But I don't know if.

198

:

It has enough of the, like heat

dispersion, especially in the face

199

:

because it is like a sleeping bag.

200

:

So I don't know if it's providing enough

of a benefit for me to wanna repurchase.

201

:

Again, I've said this since we got it,

but the large thera gun or massage gun,

202

:

the large side specifically, I feel like

it's very bulky whenever I wanna use it.

203

:

I wanna use it during travel a lot because

sitting on a plane, sitting in a car,

204

:

you just want to have that option to.

205

:

Like percussion or percuss

your muscles a little bit.

206

:

And the large one is just the

size of a large lunchbox and

207

:

pretty heavy and pretty bulky.

208

:

And so if I had to go back, I

would get the travel size one

209

:

instead of the super large one.

210

:

And then lastly, this one I just

thought about, but there were some.

211

:

Free people, shorts, athletic shorts

that I once had that were a beautiful

212

:

like mau of color, but the liner

was white, which is so annoying.

213

:

So any of the shorts, I don't buy

them anymore, but any of the shorts

214

:

that has a white liner, anytime

I try and convince myself, oh, it

215

:

won't make any difference to me.

216

:

I never wear them because.

217

:

Athletic shorts can be

short when you run, right?

218

:

Like you're running the wind's

blowing whatever, you're gonna see

219

:

the liner at some point probably.

220

:

And having a white liner or a liner

that is a different color than

221

:

the actual shorts really bugs me.

222

:

So that's a small one, but I forget

what the free people short style was.

223

:

I hope they changed the liner color, but

it used to be super popular and I ended

224

:

up donating the shorts because I just

could not get over the fact that they

225

:

were a mov short with a white liner,

which it just made no sense to me.

226

:

So this was a little bit of a fun,

definitely more casual, girly episode,

227

:

influencing and de influencing you

guys on some health and wellness

228

:

non-negotiables from me, but then also

from you guys and things that have

229

:

withstood the test of time in all of

our routines, and then de influencing

230

:

you from things that I've bought that

I maybe wouldn't necessarily buy again.

231

:

So I hope you enjoyed this fun episode.

232

:

Just a little, little casual girl chat.

233

:

A little less serious than some of our

other episodes, but I hope you enjoyed

234

:

it and I'll see you guys again on the

next episode of Wellness Fixes the Pod.
